History of Our Championship Rodeo

Shawn Graham
Owner and Operator

Shawn Graham is the proud owner and operator of The Painted Pony Championship Rodeo. His passion for rodeo is what has kept this western tradition alive here in upstate New York. Shawn purchased The Painted Pony from longtime friend, Jack McQue back in the fall of 2001, and rebuilt the Longhorn Saloon that was completley lost in a fire. Shawn has worked tiredlessly to improve the grounds, covered the grandstands, and strives for great stock. Only to get bigger and better, The Painted Pony now has a traveling road show in full swing up and down the east coast. This truly is a dream come true for Shawn.

  • Painted Pony Rodeo brought the first Saddle Bronc Horse
    (Shasta) from NY to make it to the Wrangler National Finals in Las Vegas.
  • In 2009 we brought Shasta and a Bull to the National Finals

  • Qualified to Wrangler National Finals Rodeo #90 Gear Jamin - 5th rankest bull of the first go round.
  • Qualified to Wrangler National Finals Rodeo #566 Shake-n-Bake - second alternate bull.
  • Justin Best Footing Award for the First Frontier Circuit by the Women's Professional Rodeo Association First through third were all Painted Pony Rodeos: 1st - Chatham, NY; 2nd - Lake Luzerne, NY; 3rd - Greenwich, NY
  • Stock Contractor of the Year in American Professional Rodeo Association
  • American Professional Rodeo Association Bareback Horse of the Year - #49

2008

  • Qualified to Wrangler National Finals #70 Shasta - Saddle Bronc Horse. First New York horse ever hauled to Las Vegas for the WNFR.
  • US Smokeless Tobacco Company, First Frontier Circuit Finals Bull of the Year - #131- Partner
  • US Smokeless Tobacco Company, First Frontier Circuit Finals Bareback Horse of the year - #344 - Misfit
  • Qualified to International Finals Rodeo 38 1 Bareback horse, 3 Saddle Bronc horses and 5 bulls. The most bulls taken by any contractor that year.
